Dr. Sarah Nowak
Registered Psychologist
As the oldest child of many, I’ve been interested in child development for as long as I can remember. I quickly learned that actively playing a supportive role in the lives of children and teens was what I loved to do. Teaching preschool programs, being an aide in general and special education classrooms, and being part of research teams that studied early literacy, school readiness, and child interviewing have all been part of this journey. Now, as a Psychologist, I have the privilege to walk alongside caregivers and their children as they navigate childhood and adolescence (with all its ups, downs, and surprises!). I use humour, warmth, and play to build relationships in which children and their important adults feel safe to share, explore, learn, and grow. I believe that working collaboratively with caregivers is an essential part of supporting the psychological health of their children. Whether you are looking to learn and understand more about your child’s development or are seeking support for a specific concern, let’s work together.
I am a Registered Clinical and School Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario, serving children and adolescents. I came to the Kitchener-Waterloo area to pursue my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University. It was here that I started my deep dive into child and adolescent development and how children learn. I continued my studies at the University of Guelph, acquiring my Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.
Throughout my training I supported children, teens, and their important adults in schools, and community public and private mental health settings. Since becoming a Registered Psychologist I have spent the majority of my practice in schools collaborating with children, their families, and school personnel. I’ve had the rich experience of raising my two school-aged children alongside my professional training and ongoing professional development.
